Christian heretics, other religions, seriousness, the game of chess, and play

***

There are groups of people that despise chess because of its extended intensity and seriousness. It is apparent that an unserious man can be forced by situation and circumstance to become serious. Can a man not be serious and play chess? No. For it is not the movement of men which defines the game of chess, it is the intense mental struggle that a person goes through in playing the game, the strategy. The game has gone beyond the simple movements of men. Is it possible that a man who is forced into a situation that demands seriousness- existence for example- that to be anything other than serious is to be purely going through the motions- to not really be playing?
